YOUR GIFTS, YOUR KEYS: NO NEED FOR BREAKTHROUGHS: PDL INSIGHTS (PART 6)

YOUR GIFTS, YOUR KEYS: NO NEED FOR BREAKTHROUGHS: PURPOSE DRIVEN LIVING (PDL) INSIGHTS (PART 6)

On our journey in the PDL walk we have discussed on the three clusters, the intersection of which is our purpose. Your purpose is a role that allows you to fully express your values and convictions (1. Values cluster) doing what you love doing and are passionate about (2. Passion cluster) and what you are good at (3. Gifts cluster).

In our last discussion we talked about the passion cluster and today we will be talking about The Gifts Cluster. Our purposes are usually expressed through what we are good at. This is usually in the form of gifts, skills, abilities and talents.

The Gifts cluster is broad.  Some are natural gifts while others are spiritual. Spiritual gifts are those endowed upon us by the Godhead. The bible separates the gifts as those of the Spirit, the Lord Jesus and God the Father in the following verses.

 "Now there are [distinctive] varieties of spiritual gifts [special abilities given by the grace and extraordinary power of the Holy Spirit operating in believers], but it is the same Spirit [who grants them and empowers believers]."

"And there are [distinctive] varieties of ministries and service, but it is the same Lord [who is served]."
 "And there are [distinctive] ways of working [to accomplish things], but it is the same God who produces all things in all believers [inspiring, energizing, and empowering them]." [1Cor 12:4-6]

These are separated in three portions with;

 The gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 KJV
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

Gifts of Christ in Ephesians 4: 11
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Gifts of the Father in Romans 12: 6-8
"Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them accordingly: if [someone has the gift of] prophecy, [let him speak a new message from God to His people] in proportion to the faith possessed;"

"if service, in the act of serving; or he who teaches, in the act of teaching;"
"or he who encourages, in the act of encouragement; he who gives, with generosity; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy [in caring for others], with cheerfulness."

In addition to the spiritual gifts, this gifts cluster also includes the natural gifts and talents like sports, art, charisma. On the same cluster is also skills that we acquire by learning, training and practice whether in formal schooling, from others or in different ways like medical, engineering, tailoring, designing. Others can have the same gifts as natural talents while others acquire them through learning and training.

One fact about gifts is that we don't get them as polished and finished products but once we realise them we have to keep sharpening them. The more we sharpen them, the more they begin to open doors for us so that we can passionately express our inner values and convictions without struggling.

Gifts are very important in the PDL and the wisest person to live in the ancient world said,
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. [Proverbs 18: 16]

It is these gifts that we use to add value in the lives of others and we have been entrusted with them as an endowment of God's grace which we are to manage. The Apostle Peter encourages us to this effect saying,

"Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God's multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God's unmerited favor]."  [1Peter 4:10]

Take your time to pray and search inside to answer the following questions that help you identify your gifts.

1. What is it that you do not struggle to do?

2. What kind of activity is it that when you are engaged in it you lose track of time and you can forget even to eat?

3. What kind of skill, gift or talent that you have that you believe with enough time, practice and resources you can develop until you get into the top 10% in that field?

4. What gift did you not naturally have that you started discovering after you began walking with God?

Take time to reflect on these insights and keep sharpening yourself for the PDL.

Below is my personal brief story on the journey of self-discovery.
l grew with ambitions in engineering as a result of the influence of the environment that made me believe that this was a field that defined manhood.

In my first year in university in 2003 l found a new life in Christ Jesus and had a personal encounter with the ME that was in God's mind in Christ.

I discovered that l was not from inside an engineering person that l was made to believe by my environment. I was a people person.

I suddenly began to discover a desire to understand about why people failed to realise their full potential after having met the real me and realising the potential of who l could be.

I began to develop a desire to teach and discovered that l was truly gifted in teaching. To express myself l began writing what l thought as important down and also discovered that l also could write.
I looked back to my life and began to see that l had a few opportunities to teach when l was growing up in school and one of the moments l felt so great, with all the juices coming out of me was when l was asked to make a bible presentation in the Assembly Hall in high school.

Though l was not born again and had never trained in public speaking, in front of such a big crowd l made a presentation that surprised everyone. I remember members of staff coming to me astounded that l could teach and make so much sense and motivate others. This was contrary to the mischief that l was so popular with.

This was a gift that l had but never recognised it. It is the dominant gift that has made the brand Coach Tarie that l carry that l believe has been a blessing to many.

To answer the four questions.
1. I don't struggle to speak to people what l believe will add value to them and also researching and studying things that l think will add value to other people's lives.

2. The activities that when l am engaged in l lose track of time is studying, writing and speaking/ teaching.

3. I believe l can be the best and be excellent in teaching and writing kingdom insights and wisdom.

1.       I began discovering that l had teaching grace after l got born again though l had one teaching experience in high school that l never pursued or even think l could have a career in and an ability to study for long hours and read long scripts that l hated in high school.
