YOU COULD BE AFRAID OF YOUR ‘BIG’ PURPOSE: PDL INSIGHTS (PART 3)

YOU COULD BE AFRAID OF YOUR ‘BIG’ PURPOSE: PURPOSE DRIVEN LIVING (PDL) INSIGHTS (PART 3)

Sometimes when our purposes confront us we fail to embrace them because they seem to be way out of our reach as compared to our current positions. Many people in the bible doubted their capabilities when they encountered their purposes. Most of them tried to find excuses when their purposes confronted them.

Moses talked of his speaking challenges, Simon Peter and Isaiah talked of their uncleanness and Gideon tried to give excuses saying, "Please Lord, how am I to rescue Israel? Behold, my family is the least [significant] in Manasseh, and I am the youngest (smallest) in my father's house." [Judges 6:15]

With this attitude where we see ourselves with the wrong lenses we feel not adequate enough to take bigger responsibilities hence disqualify ourselves from our purposes. Reconnecting ourselves with our true identity is therefore necessary to be able to accept our purposes.

Reconciliation with God is therefore an important part which will be reinforced by a relationship and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. This is illustrated in the words of Paul who said,

"In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words." [Rom 8:26]

The Greek word used in the above scripture for how the Spirit 'helps' us is 'sunantilambanomai' which literally means "lifting the other end of a heavy object". If inside ourselves we may be failing to believe and accept our purposes to carry them inside us, fellowship with the Holy Spirit will allow him to help us until we can embrace our purposes. He helps us by lifting the other end of our purposes that are overwhelming and seemingly too big for us. Prayer, studying the word, worship and consistent fellowship with God makes understanding and discovering our purposes bearable.

Sometimes we understand our purposes but we are afraid to accept them because of the responsibility and discipline that comes with it. Many people know what they are expected of in line with their purposes but are afraid of the investment, commitment and sacrifices that come with the purpose. These are better described with the words of Marianne Williamson who said,

"Our Deepest Fear is that We Are Powerful Beyond Measure Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

This makes it clear that we need an intimate relationship with the Lord to fully comprehend and have full grip of our purposes. The PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE (PDL) is not an event that happens overnight - it's a walk-
